The local companies working in Oil & Gas Industry

Having a local company to run as a vendor or suppliers for Petronas is good. With the support of the locals, they can contribute to the growth of the oil and gas industry. This is one of Petronas effort to support local capability development in Malaysia, especially on Malaysian Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak). With Vendor Development Programme (VDP), it provides opportunities for capable, local companies to provide products and services, in the same time adhere the requirements and conducts set by Petronas.

Earlier this week, Over 200 representatives from more than 100 companies in Sarawak attended a two-day Licensing & Registration Clinic at Lutong. The clinic was organised by Petronas to reach out potential local vendors and suppliers.

The clinic was also intended to enhance their understanding on the processes and requirements of becoming a licensed service provider for Petronas. The one-to-one talk session has proven to be the best part inn the clinic, this is where the local vendors can enquire and get more clarification on matters like licensing and registrations. As reported, the participants are largely satisfied because their queries are answered and explained in details.

You can see how serious Petronas is on having the right people for the right job, esupporting the upstream and downstream operations. Judging by the attendance, many locals are eager to participate in the industry, but they must be constantly on their toes because this programme (VDP) will constantly evaluate their performance. If they only in for the money and no commitment, they should consider kedai runcit business. For a business that generate billions revenue yearly, Oil & Gas industry is a serious business.

This is what I sometime see in local people doing business, the mentality of wanting to live easy without doing so much effort. I apologize for being off topic, but I can’t help thinking about how local company survive if they stay in that mentality. The only way to move forward and achieve more is to give out effort like nobody’s business. Creativity, cooperation and a good leadership is what separate a great local company than the rest.
