Good news for the players in the Oil & Gas industry, the ASEAN Oil & Gas Expo (AGEX) 2011 will be happening in Labuan on the 2nd to 4th November 2011. The event will take place at Financial Park Convention Centre, exhibition (from 10am to 6pm) is open to trade visitors only and it is free of charge.

Visitors may also attend the conference available on the event day, and conference fee is applicable depending on the sessions that visitors would like to join in. The event is organized by FireWorks Event (M) Sdn Bhd, with the endorsement and support by Ministry of Industrial Development Sabah (MID), Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC), Singapore Industrial Automation Association (SIAA) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

AGEX 2011 is the industry event for oil and gas professionals in the region, it offers the ideal platform to explore new oil and gas business opportunities, expanding market presence and penetrate emerging markets in Sabah. Participating in the event will give industrial players to keep abreast with the petroleum challenges of today and the energy prospects of tomorrow. There are 5 industry specific shows at one venue:

  • Asean Oil & Gas 2011: Oil & Gas related equipment, supplies and services.
  • Asean OffshoreTech 2011: Offshore related equipment, supplies and services.
  • Asean Shipbuild Tek 2011: Shipbuilding related equipment, supplies and services.
  • Asean Deepwater 2011: Deepwater and Subsea related equipment, supplies and services.
  • Asean Process Automation 2011: Automation related equipment, supplies and services.

Previously, I only talk about how Sabah and Sarawak could be a strong key player in Oil & Gas Industry, but Labuan can also be considered as one of them as well. Labuan has been the hub for fabrication facility, growing oil & gas industry workforce in onshore and offshore sites. So much that recently, Sarawak-based Petra Energy had established a collaboration with Labuan Shipyard and Engineering for minor and major fabrication works.

Labuan, with this event is hoped to grow more and be the largest deepwater oil & gas hub in the world, and I don’t see any wrong in this vision. Being a tax free zone in Malaysia and a strategic location, local industry player can get a huge benefits.
