Almost Alice: The impossible things
keywords: movie, alice in wonderland, six impossible things
Last Sunday, me and my lady watched Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland. I go out and arrived at the Wawasan bus terminal like 10AM; my lady was having a little bit of diffuculty to come early, I waited like two hours before she arrived.
I was a bit mad at first, but looking how beautifully she dressed and her smile… I melted and surrendered. Oh well, we moved on to Growball Cinemax at Center Point to watch the movie; because we were late, I brought tickets for this movie show at 2PM.
The time was 12:50PM, so we go to a food court to eat. We took time window shopping before finally going to the cinema hall. Just after I brought ourselves a Super Combo popcorn and drinks, the hall became so crowded; transition times are always like this.
This movie is more of a sequel than a direct adaptation; rendered in Tim Burton’s style. As I remember, the original story(the animation) ended when young Alice in an enormous size(after eating a cake) battling the hordes of card army; then she woke up and found that it was only a dream.
Alice Kingsley who is now 19, has been arranged for a wedding to a Lord named Hamish; but Alice hesitated when he asked her to marry him. This is when she ran away, subsequently chasing that seems to be familiar white rabbit; and eventually she fell into a big hole.
Thats when she once again embark on a journey in Wonderland; She doesn’t remember anything about this world, she still think of it as just another dream. Everyone who met her the first time again didn’t believe that they brought back the right Alice to Underland(the real name of Wonderland).
She was pre-destined to slay the jabberwocky on the Frabjous Day; as been told on the Oraculum, a calender-like of all the days of Underland, each day having its own title and illustration. She goes into various size with the help of Upelkuchen, a cake that makes one grow and Pishsalver a potion that makes one shrink.
She met many prominent characters along the way; I see how she strengthen her resolve, remembering back her past experiences and she learning how to take control of her life in the real world.
The movie effects were marvellous, from the environment to the character itself. Some characters are mixed CGI that I found not quite fit in with the environment; like The Knave Of Hearts, Stayne(Crispin Glover).
I found him walking with those long legs around kinda funny, but the Red Queen’s(Helena Bonham Carter) oversized head or the Mad Hatter’s(Johnny Depp) changing eyes color is awesome. Of all the characters in this movie, my personal favorite would be the Cheshire Cat(Stephen Fry).
I love how the kitteh float and teleport around where ever he wants to go, I would’ve want that myself too you know.
“Downal wyth Bluddy Behg Hid!!” literally means “Down with the Red Queen!!”, recurs in this movie, so much hate they have towards the Red Queen; they have their own unique language used, but I remember only this line.
This movie is a mix of weirdness and drama; while staying off from being to much of a cliché(pronounced klē-ˈshā). Every actors and actresses have done their part brilliantly, a great movie to be enjoyed with.
The movie song Alice by Avril Lavigne got stuck in my head now, and I really want to find the background song used when the Mad Hatter do the Futterwacken dance.
Also… the six impossible things before breakfast, Alice’s version:
One! There’s a potion that can make you shrink.
Two! And a cake that can make you grow.
Three! Animals can talk.
Four! Cats can disappear.
Five! There is a place called Wonderland.
Six! I can slay the Jabberwocky!
What is your version? 🙂
I often believe in six impossible things before breakfast. ~ Alice Kingsley
Yay! to Cheshire!! huhu
Electric Blue cat! Its just awesome! ^^
Yeah, love how laid back he is in many situations. So cool
Indeed it was a pretty good movie. I was amazed..the best part that makes me smile is when that cute little smiley blue cat cheats as hatter and said "good morning"..
Yes, thats why I love Cheshire Cat. Did you see how he love Tarrant's(Mad Hatter) hat that he clawed it like any other kitteh will do? hehe there's this aura of cuteness and awesomeness with this kitteh.
