Event: Kota Kinabalu Twestival 2011
First of all, what is Twestival? ahaa, what is it all about?
Twestival (Twitter + Festival) uses social media to connect the communities offline on a special day to highlight their special cause as well as having fun throughout the event. What started out as a single event in London in 2008 has now turned into a global movement, inspiring Twitter communities aroud the world to work together in support of a good cause on a single day.
This year Twestival is going ‘Local’ in cities around the world. Events for Twestival Local will raise funds and awareness for local nonprofits that organizers identify for having an incredible impact within their own community.
Personally, I learned about Twestival before I even got my Twitter account last year :P. I was reading Jasmine’s blog post about her involvement in KK Twestival 2010. Months after that, I made my Twitter account with the username @kupotweet, but I started being active and expanding #tweetbuddy since August. And the rest is history…
Kota Kinabalu Twestival 2011 is going to be held on March 24, at Origins Cafe (I love the special coffee) and Green Olives, Karamunsing Capital. They are supporting Sabah Society for the Blind.
Proceeds from this year’s Twestival will be put to use to develop and implement small-scale income-generating projects, specifically the mushroom cultivation, organic vegetable farming and nursery (fruits and flowers) programme located at the Wallace Sheltered Workshop in Tuaran. As the blind are limited by the types of work they can perform, channelling aid into the expansion of their farming programme will create more opportunities for them to generate sustainable income.
Tweeps, KK Twestival is one of the awesome events in Sabah that you cannot miss, enjoy exciting activities like auctions, mini competitions while having the chance to socialize, make new friends at the same time. It doesn’t matter if you are a Twitterer of not, just have fun and support the cause, give something for charity. You gonna love it, for sure man!
Oh another thing, I did mention about an auction right?, what do they have to be auctioned? handsome bachelor and gorgeous bachelorette, ermmmm emmmmm~ (you know what that expression is). I don’t have the details here, but I got some info from my hired spy that you will get more info about The Eligibles and also other information, when you visit the official Kota Kinabalu Twestival website. You can also follow their tweet update via @kktwestival.
