0001-merdeka

This month is a special month for Malaysia, the month of Malaya’s Independence

Browsing through Sabahan Blogger group site on Facebook, I read a discussion about Independence Day. Question:

How do Malaysians in the olden days celebrate merdeka? and how Malaysians today, especially the youths, celebrate merdeka? what are the differences of celebrating merdeka then and now? and, how do you celebrate merdeka?

I then replied,

Peoples in the old days experienced being ruled by foreigner, their struggle and hardship they felt during that times. They celebrate it to commemorate their hardship and struggle towards Independence. New generations never felt this kind of experiences, and only stories and history passed down from the older generation; they celebrate to remember that they were once ruled by foreigner, and how the older generation fight for their rights to establish a better future.

So two things, Celebration & Remembrance. From my point of view 🙂

That I thought… new generations in peaceful countries like us never would experience what it like to be in a midst of a war, emergency times, power struggle against foreign rulers and much more like our ancestors. What we know is what the older generations have told us, what the history books says and what the documentaries we have seen on TV.

We the new generations must be thankful for what the older generations fight for, making a future for us to like better. We remember those who have fallen, those who had worked hard to bridge a better future for the younger generations.

We would not even be here, I would not be typing this post if not because of them; so, appreciate and remember those who have fight and taken care of us. Not just the soldiers, politicians or doctors, but also your family; besides, they are also a part of the old generations, right?

If we forget from where we are, corruption will slowly devour our heart… leaving nothing than greed and arrogance, dividing our people. Think about it… I’m thinking too.

@Mimi: That's kinda high class way to celebrate merdeka.

@Amanda: I don't have clue on how to celebrate merdeka either, new gens just take it as an excuse to go clubbing I think.
