1 Day, 2 Worlds

Yep, last Saturday was my time again for movies, I came early to Suria Sabah(around 10:00AM). a double date with 2 latest movies, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of The Dawn Treader and Tron Legacy.

I’m going through a journey of 2 worlds back to back, Narnia and The Grid, his is how feel about both of the movies.

The Narnia World

I bought a normal cinema ticket for this, and watched the early show at 11:40AM.

Lucy and Edmund Pevensie return to Narnia with their cousin Eustace where they meet up with Prince Caspian for a trip across the sea aboard the royal ship The Dawn Treader. Along the way they encounter dragons, dwarves, merfolk, and a band of lost warriors before reaching the edge of the world.

Personal review

And I thought the chronicle was over in TCON: Prince Caspian. The gate to the world is once again open from a painting, calling back the high king and queen of Narnia. This time only 2 of the Pevensie returned, Edmund Pevensie(Skandar Keynes) and Lucy Pevensie(Georgie Henley). A new character, Eustace Scrubb(Will Poulter), their cousin joined in the adventure for the first time.

Man is Eustace such a hyper realistic nerdy boy, I found him such an annoying person at the beginning of the movie.

The story have this RPG-ish pace; when they complete mission on certain places, another route is open leading to another new adventure and getting close to the real porpose of the voyage. There was not much fighting action in this movie, the voyage itself acts like a soul searching for Edmund, Lucy, Caspian and the most important of all, for Eustace.

With his transformation to a dragon and friendship with Reepicheep; Eustace learned so much on the voyage, and slowly accept the Narnian world. His journal monologue kept me entertained, its funny how her describes the bizarre chain of events that happened to him.

Rediscovering themselves, and the battle against the source of pure evil along the journey. Seems pretty simple storyline, yet still entertaining with some battle and funny scene. I also like the character transition in Eustace, and surely he has learned his lesson in a magical way.

I give The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader a 7.5/10

Narnia movie finished about 1:30PM, I moved on to the next movie on 2:00PM.

The Grid World

Sam Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 20 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Personal review

Its been like years since I watched the first Tron movie, I remember back in my younger days I watched it on TV3. Love the lightcycle battle and the frisbee throwing thingy, in which now I know that was actually an Identity Disc.

Now let me explain this, Tron is not the name of that virtual cyperspace, its the name of Kevin Flynn’s program. The place is called The Grid, and it was so much different from the previous one, what was once bright now becomes dark but glowish.

I have to admit, the flashback stories, the CGI of The Grid environment was awesome, The Grid society technology was grand, I love it. There is a strong sense of continuation from the previous film, explaining what has been occurred before the film timeline.

I bought 3D ticket for this, but I regret getting it because it was not worth watching. There are a lot of 2D scenes compared to 3D scenes. Moreover the movie pace was kinda slow that even the fight scene looks typically boring. My attention turned back on when Quorra(Olivia Wilde) make her appearance, she is so lovely ♥

Even through all that, I still enjoy the movie and Disney did a great job not to insert too much violence and adult themes to this movie. It is safe to be watched by kids.

I give Tron: Legacy a 7/10

You have returned for a reason. Your adventure begins now. ~ Aslan

The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they traveled through the computer. Ships, motorcycles. With the circuits like freeways. I kept dreaming of a world I thought I’d never see. And then, one day… i got in. ~ Kevin Flynn
